Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 election, has revealed why his tweet condemning Deborah Samuel’s murder was deleted.

Deborah Yakubu, a 200-level Home Economics student at Sokoto State’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was stoned to death and set ablaze earlier this year by Islamic fanatics for supposed blasphemy.

Apart from the deleted post, Atiku stated in a subsequent statement that he regretted the student’s death.

But, addressing on Channels Television’s The People’s Townhall in Abuja on Sunday, Atiku denounced the killing and explained why the tweet was removed.

Atiku stated that he did not agree of the tweet criticizing the lynching of a Christian student and demanded that it be removed.

“I asked the tweet to be deleted because I normally approve every tweet. So, since I didn’t approve it, I said, ‘delete it’. If you read my subsequent statements on that murder, I condemned it.
