On Sunday, former president Goodluck Jonathan forwent watching the France vs. Argentina World Cup championship game in order to preside over a wedding reception.
Jonathan said this in Abuja at the wedding of Olufunso Ayileka and the former Miss Ayibadiepriye Igali, former ambassador to Scandinavia and the daughter of Dr. Godknows Igali, a former permanent secretary in the ministry of power.
At the event, Lee Maeba, a former senator from the Rivers South-East Senatorial District of the National Assembly, criticized the police investigation into the alleged political thugs’ attack on his homes and threatened to sue Commissioner of Police Okon Effiong for prejudice.

“I never expected this great gathering because of the 2022 World Cup football final between France and Argentina. I was watching it when I was told it was time for the wedding reception. I had to leave and come here,” Jonathan said.
Maeba counseled the couple to be patient with one another and put their love first in order to keep their marriage strong.
Additionally, he stated that the All Progressives Congress and the current administration of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.) needed to be overthrown in order for the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential nominee, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to win the 2023 elections.
According to reports, gunmen stormed Maeba’s home in Port Harcourt.
Maeba has blamed the government for the assault on his properties.

However, Effiong, the commissioner of police in Rivers State, claimed that the alleged thugs’ attack on Maeba’s home might have been staged.
Effiong had previously stated that he thought it was suspicious that only rickety, old cars were destroyed while expensive vehicles were left undamaged.
Maeba, however, criticized Effiong’s claim and declared he would seek retribution in court.
A close friend of Igali, he added, he knew his daughter, the bride, to be a well-behaved young lady who would make a fine wife.
Maeba counseled the couple to put their marriage’s primary focus on their love and handle their business with maturity and respect for one another.
He said, “A police commissioner conducted an investigation into an attack on my home within 48 hours. Have you heard that before? He did not ask me anything. How does he reach that point?

“The Commissioner of Police may end up completely destroying his career. We will challenge him in court to tell us how an investigation came up with that conclusion.”
Speaking about the general election in 2023, he asserted that the only way for Nigerians to escape the current economic suffering was to cast a sizable number of votes for the PDP and Atiku.
Friends of the couple’s family were in attendance at the wedding, including Senator Cleopas Moses, former Chief of Staff to Jonathan, Chief Mike Ogiadomhen, former Senate President Pius Anyim, and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who was represented by Oseloka Obaze (Bayelsa Central).
