Policeman Who Shot Lagos Lawyer Bolanle Raheem Has Been Identified By Police

The police officer who fatally shot Lagos-based attorney Bolanle Raheem has been identified by the Lagos Police Command.
Drambi Vandi is the name of the police officer who shot Bolanle, according to police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to reports, Raheem and her family were attempting to return home from a Christmas Day church service when Vandi, a police officer assigned to the Ajah Police Station, and his crew attempted to stop them.

While attempting to make a U-turn beneath the Ajah Bridge, the policeman shot the car.

After being injured by the gunfire and being taken to the hospital, Bolanle’s death was officially declared.

Vandi, who has now been taken into custody, is an assistant superintendent of police, according to a spokeswoman for Lagos State police.

Hundeyin said the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He also promised that the investigation into the death of the lawyer will be “swift.”

Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali in a statement signed by the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi condoled with the deceased family.

He said the action of the police officer does not represent the core values of the Nigerian Police Force.
Adejobi said the IGP assured that “speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act, which doesn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values.”

Hundeyin in a tweet on Boxing Day said the incident was avoidable and unfortunate.

“The Lagos State Police Command condoles with the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem.”

He disclosed that Lagos police commissioner CP Abiodun Alabi “has been in touch with the family and the Nigerian Bar Association since yesterday and has given firm assurances that justice will definitely prevail.”
