Today, the Nigerian Supreme Court is scheduled to issue rulings regarding the electoral challenges pertaining to the governorship elections that took place in nine states on March 18, 2023.
The states of Delta, Rivers, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Gombe, Kaduna, and Ogun are awaiting the ruling of the supreme court.
A senior Supreme Court official who asked to remain anonymous told Vanguard that several cases’ judgement dates were moved up to today because the court’s judges will be taking a leave the following week.

Justices Inyang Okoro and Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, respectively, are in charge of the panels that render the decisions.
The appeal filed by the PDP and its candidate, Mohammed Barde, against Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya is one noteworthy case.
They are requesting the overturning of the rulings made by the Gombe State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which confirmed Governor Yahaya’s election victory.
The PDP and its candidate, Mohammed Ashiru, filed appeals against Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, which the court has also heard.
Governor Sani defeated PDP candidate Ashiru, who received 719, 196 votes, with a total of 730, 001 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

Nevertheless, the PDP and its candidate went to the tribunal to contest the election’s outcome since they were unhappy with it.
The petitioners claimed that the election was unconstitutional due to fraudulent practices and a failure to follow the terms of the Electoral Act 2022, and that governor Uba was not legitimately elected based on the majority of valid votes cast.
