Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), refuted suggestions that he had endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president.

El-Zakzaky issued this statement via one of his attorneys, Marshall Abubakar, in which he referred to the rumors as untrue and advised Nigerians to ignore them.

Marshall said, “That is fake news. I can confirm to you that there is nothing of such, though some presidential candidates have reached out to him, he has refrained from endorsing any of them because he believes the 2023 presidential contest is bereft of ideological leaning.”

Recall that there were recent online rumors that went widespread, claiming that El-Zakzaky had called his IMN members to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and vote for Obi on February 25.
