‘There was a premeditated plot to destroy Nigeria but God did not permit it,’ said President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday. ‘God has helped Nigeria to bounce back.’

The President also urged Nigerians to have great faith in their government and security forces and to never again allow terrorist organizations to destabilize Nigeria.

Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Damaturu, Hashimi II El-Kanemi, the President vowed that his administration would continue to defend every Nigerian child’s right to an education, especially those who have been uprooted by Boko Haram.

He said, ‘‘With the four months I have left as President, I’ll continue to be steadfast and I hope that I will retire in peace.

‘‘We must develop strong confidence in our country. Let us make sure we do not compromise security at all in any form because security and the economy are the most important things.

‘‘We have gone through so much as a country and I appeal to you to be steadfast and make sure that we will not allow anybody to disorganize us again.”

The President thanked Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and Prof. Babagana Zulum of Borno State for their tenacity in rebuilding the schools, health centers, and other institutions that the misguided terrorists had destroyed, and expressed his joy at the restoration of peace and normalcy to Northeast Nigeria.

For their sacrifices in defending the nation, he praised members of the armed forces and the police.

The President recalled how people who participated in the fight to preserve Nigeria’s unity during the Civil War vowed never to “let anybody to tamper with this country again.”

The President was informed by Governor Buni that terrorists had taken control of the Emir of Damaturu’s palace during the fervor of the conflict against insurgency.

‘‘However, today and worthy of note is that Yobe State is one of the States you liberated from the clutches of Boko Haram terrorists.

‘‘Before in this Palace even if you placed one billion dollars for someone to come and pick it, nobody dared to come near but your coming onboard has made that history and the people of Yobe are enjoying relative peace.’’

The Emir also praised the President for enhancing national security, stating, “We have through harsh experiences in the past, but your government has brought the nation together.”

Following a polite visit to the Emir’s palace, President Buhari went on to officially commission a number of initiatives carried out by the State administration and the top brass of the Nigerian Police Force.

Under the direction of Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, they include the ultra-modern State Command Headquarters, the Police Tertiary Hospital and access roads, and the Police Secondary School.

Additionally, he opened the Governor Buni-built Damaturu Mega School at the new Bra-Bra, the Damaturu Ultra-Modern Market, the Maternal and Child Health Complex at the Yobe State Teaching Hospital, the 2600 Housing Estate in Potiskum, and more.

The President had opened the Yobe International Cargo Airport, which was dedicated in his honor, earlier and right after his arrival from Yola, Adamawa State.
