Court Sacks Elisha Abbo From Contesting Adamawa North Senatorial Election

Sen. Ishaku Abbo was removed from consideration as the APC senatorial candidate for the Adamawa North senatorial zone by a Yola High Court presided over by Justice Mohammed Danladi on Tuesday.

Senator Abbo was dismissed by the court on the grounds that his ward in Adamawa’s Mubi North local government area had kicked him out of the party.

The decision of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Mubi North Local government chapter’s executive to expel him from the party on October 7, 2022, is binding on the Senator and the APC, according to Justice Danladi.

The court therefore asserted that Senator Abbo is ineligible to benefit from any privileges or rights enjoyed by APC members.

Recall that on October 7, 2022, the Mubi North LG executive of the party confirmed the Senator’s expulsion as proposed by the party’s disciplinary committee.

The court also prohibited the APC, under whose banner the senator is running for reelection, from recognizing him as its nominee, ruling that he is ineligible to represent the party in the upcoming general election.

Sen. Abbo was prohibited by the judgement from running as the party’s nominee in the upcoming general election in the Northern Senatorial District.

Court Fines Senator Elisha Abbo N50m For Alleged Assault

Justice Danladi ruled that the plaintiff’s attorney’s evidence is beyond a reasonable question, and the court is happy with the party’s procedure. He added that Senator was given the chance to defend himself but purposefully chose not to do so.

According to him, the plaintiffs’ lawsuit against the senator is not an internal party matter as alleged, and they have the legal right to file it because they are registered party members.

It may be recalled that two APC members sued the senator and demanded an explanation of his membership in the party, Abdullahi Suleiman and Yusha’u Usman of Kolere and Sabon Layi Wards, Mubi North LGA, respectively.

Abubakar Ali, the plaintiffs’ attorney, expressed his appreciation to the court and claimed that the decision will serve as a deterrence to errant party members who exalted themselves above the party in his response.
