The President’s loyalists, including Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, and Mamman Daura, the President’s nephew and close confidant, may also be responsible for the multiple demonstrations, rallies, and news stories that favor the CBN chief against the DSS.

According to reports, several of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides are spearheading the effort to prevent Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) from detaining Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The President’s loyalists, including Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, and Mamman Daura, the President’s nephew and close confidant, may also be responsible for the multiple demonstrations, rallies, and news stories that favor the CBN chief against the DSS.

CBN Gov, Emefiele ‘Secretly’ Returns To Nigeria Amidst Fear Of Arrest

There is a scheme, according to numerous groupings and civil society organizations, to falsely accuse Emefiele of being a terrorist and have him removed from office.

Without mentioning Emefiele by name, the DSS quickly issued a warning against being used to “undermine” its investigations.

DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya stated that the agency will not be sidetracked by anyone looking to use “propaganda” to thwart its legitimate investigations.

Sources informed Newsmen that various monarchs, including obas and emirs, had been lobbied and sent to plead for Emefiele and persuade the president and director general of the DSS that Emefiele should be allowed to remain in office.

It was also learnt that Mamman Daura and El-Rufai were “working hard and doing everything within their power to wage war against the DG of DSS (Yusuf Bichi)”.

“They have deployed Obas and Emirs to beg on behalf of Emefiele and Governor Nasir El-Rufai leading the charge to fight for him,” one of the sources said.

Emefiele was said to have helped the Kaduna governor secure a World Bank loan worth $350 million.

“Emefiele helped Governor El-Rufai to secure $350m world bank loan out of which the governor made for himself N70 per dollar after the cash was sold to Aliko Dangote.

“Emefiele has serious stakes in 12 banks. He needs to explain how he got money to be a major stakeholder in 12 banks. He has stakes in Tita, Globus, Providence, Union Bank, big interest in First Bank and others,” a source said.

“Mamman Daura is still working hard for him not to be arrested. He is still waging war against the Director-General of the DSS and other top officials.”

Emefiele is not yet back in the country, contrary to what certain online sites have stated, a source had earlier informed Newsmen.

After many claims, including corruption, against him were investigated, the CBN governor left the country for a period of time.

According to the DSS, early investigations had shown that Emefiele had participated in economic crimes with a national security component as well as other actions of financing terrorism.

The DSS is forbidden from detaining, arresting, or questioning Emefiele, according to a recent judgment from a Federal High Court in Maitama, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Online rumors said that the head of the apex bank was returning to Nigeria on Thursday, but a source told Newsmen that he is still abroad.

The insider stated that despite Emefiele’s theatrics and the most recent court decision, the secret police is on high alert and will arrest him.

Emefiele traveled to Washington, DC, with President Muhammadu Buhari between December 13 and December 15, 2022, for the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit.

The CBN governor purposefully delayed his trip back to Nigeria, whilst Buhari left Abuja a day after the summit.

“Emefiele is not back in Nigeria as reported by some platforms. DSS is still looking for him. DSS operatives are on alert.

“All the CBN directors have abandoned him except Kingsley Obiora and Aishah Ahmad. The report that he was back in Nigeria is false. He has nowhere to hide,” one of the sources said.

Aishah Ahmad was named deputy governor on March 23, 2018, replacing Obiora as the CBN’s deputy governor in charge of economic policy.
Aishah previously held the position of Executive Director, Retail Banking at Diamond Bank PLC before being hired by the CBN.
President Muhammadu Buhari requested in December 2022 that the Senate approve the nomination of Edward Adamu and Aishah for re-appointment as the CBN’s deputy governors.

In the last eight years, the CBN chairman has refined strategies to hide his history of corruption, according to news reports.

Emefiele, the governor since 2014, is the first individual to lead Nigeria’s apex bank for two terms in almost 20 years.

After Sarah Alade completed the remaining months of the tenure of the suspended Lamido Sanusi, he was first appointed by the then-President Goodluck Jonathan in June 2014.

According to numerous sources, Emefiele discreetly forwarded President Buhari the names of Aishah and Adamu, the Deputy Governors of the Corporate Services Directorate, for re-election.

Emefiele’s decision to re-appoint his stooges was a part of his strategy to hide his history of wrongdoing in the bank.

“Emefiele has secretly sent Aisha and Edward’s names for renewal months before time to stop the next government from appointing their own candidate and to allow them to cover his back,” a source in the bank had told SaharaReporters.

“He has paid the Villa cabals millions in dollars to get the renewals approved. Edward was that one on the audio Newsmen exclusively leaked.

“Aishah (Ahmad) is that deputy governor that Samaila Isa Funtua and his son brought.”

Emefiele joined the All Progressives Congress in 2021 in defiance of the CBN act.

Section 9 of the CBN Act, 2007, which stated that “The Governor and the Deputy Governors shall devote the entire time to the service of the bank and while holding office shall not engage in any full or part-time employment or vocation, whether remunerated or not, except such personal or charitable causes as may be determined by the Board and which do not conflict with or detract from their full-time duties, was the subject of the lawsuit.

“Yes, he has registered since February 2021. He is our member,” Erikpume had said.

The CBN governor went to a Federal High Court in Abuja in 2022 under significant criticism to request a constitutional interpretation of his refusal to quit while pursuing his political ambitions.
