Human rights attorney Femi Falana claims that Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been secretly proclaimed wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Falana, a guest on a Channels TV program, claimed that Emefiele had been proclaimed wanted due to charges of financing terrorism.

He bemoaned the fact that such behavior could only occur in a “banana republic.”

“I can say without any fear that Mr Godwin Emefiele is not in Nigeria, but he has been quietly declared wanted by state Security Services.

“This can only happen in a Banana republic where the CBN Governor would be accused of a grave offence, which is terrorism financing,” he said.

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is accused of diverting funds, financing terrorism, lending to farmers, and engaging in fraudulent Forex practices. He was supposed to appear before the National Assembly to give an explanation for the redesign of the naira and the cash withdrawal restrictions, but he skipped the meeting.
