If elected President next month, Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has pledged to put an end to ineffective and transactional government practices.

This commitment was made by Obi on Monday during his appearance as a guest at the British International Policy institute at Chatham House in London.

Having him as President and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as Vice President, he claimed, would enable Nigeria to eradicate inefficiency and transactional policies that encourage corruption in the executive branch.

He was quoted as saying, “there will be no sacred cow” under the Obi-Datti administration, the Labour Party Presidential candidate said that “our objective is to dismantle these structures of criminality and enthrone competence, character, and capability so that talents and ideas can flourish.”

In response to a question about how he would handle a National Assembly that might be dominated by other parties, Obi recalled a similar experience he had as governor of Anambra state, where none of the 30 members of the State Assembly belonged to his political party. He continued by saying that the best course of action in such a situation would be to act morally and avoid nepotism and transactional policies because even lawmakers value good governance.

Obi also said, “we are going to look into the issue of justice and marginalization which some of them are hinging their grievances.
