Abia PDP Primary: Names of Zone To Produce Ikonne’s Replacement Revealed

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced the zone in Abia that would produce its governorship candidate ahead of a new primary.

Prof. Eleazar Uche Ikonne, the former flagbearer, died on January 25 after a long struggle with illness.

The PDP has already set February 4 as the date for the contest to choose a new flag bearer for the March 11 elections.

The party was ordered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to hold a new primary within 14 days of Ikonne’s death.

Elder Abraham Amah, Vice Chairman of the Abia PDP, announced that the State Caucus convened on Sunday.

After debate, the gathering assigned the seat to Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, where the late Ikonne was born.

PDP leaders from throughout the state, including Abia North, Ikwuano/Umuahia, Ukwa East, and Ukwa West Local Government Areas, attended the meeting.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, ex-governor Theodore Orji, House of Assembly Speaker Chinedum Orji, senatorial contenders Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Col. Austin Akobundu were also in attendance (rtd).

The PDP asked members to support the caucus decision and strive toward a victorious primary election on Saturday.

“The Party also calls on members to remain vigilant and expect more information and briefings from the Publicity Department in due course”, Amah added.
