Two powerful governors are reportedly planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential nominee, Atiku Abubakar, only days before the February 25 poll.

Except for the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who resigns and is replaced by a southerner, the two Governors depart from the G5 Governors who had previously stated their opposition to Atiku’s ambition.

This was revealed by the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, January 31.

Alkali made the revelation in response to Atiku’s assertions that he was in discussions with NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso for support in the upcoming election.

The NNPP Chairman advised Atiku to get his house in order and stop fantasizing about Kwankwaso stepping down for him.

Alkali categorically declared that Kwankwaso was not in talks with Atiku about forming an alliance.

“Five governors are not with Atiku. These governors are coming from powerful states. The two others have been sending messages that they will not support Atiku.

“We thought that anyone contesting an election should put his house together. We left the PDP because we knew it would implode. It is not the same party as yesterday. In the next one week, some will leave the PDP,” Alkali said.
