A video has appeared on social media showing the moment enraged Nigerians threw stones and sticks, smashing the property of a commercial bank in protest at the scarcity of fresh banknotes.
Remember that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced a change in some Naira notes, citing security concerns, currency hoarding, and an increase in cybercrime as reasons for the change.
Following the paucity of fresh Naira notes, Nigerians who were unable to use other forms of payment and were forced to queue for hours took their rage out on a commercial bank.

Newsmen understand that the scarcity of new notes will occur at a period of severe shortage/increase in the price of gasoline.

In the meantime, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has extended the deadline for exchanging outdated Naira notes by ten days.
The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, said in a statement on Sunday that the extension had the approval of President Muhmammadu Buhari.

Emefiele noted that the CBN has gathered 1.9 trillion so far and only needs 900 billion to effectively implement policy.
The extension, dubbed “a 7-day grace period,” was the consequence of steps put in place to alleviate scarcity, according to the apex bank chairman.
