Ikpeazu’s Former Chief Of Staff, Okey Ahiwe, Succeeds Ikonne As Abia PDP Governorship Candidate

On Saturday, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) picked Chief Okey Ahiwe as the party’s next governorship candidate.

According to news sources, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia emerged victorious in the new primary election held to replace late Prof. Uche Ikonne.

According to reports, Ahiwe won with 469 votes out of 516 total votes cast, while Ude Oko Chukwu received 12 votes, Don Lulu also received 12 votes, and Samson Orji received 11 votes.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, declared the following results:
Chief Okey Ahiwe received 469 votes, Rt Hon Ude received 12 votes, Oko Chukwu received 12 votes, Don Lulu received 12 votes, and Samson Orji received 11 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had urged the PDP in the state to hold a fresh primary election to replace Ikonne, who died last month, according to newsmen.

The committee mandated that the election take place within 14 days of Ikonni’s death.

Last Sunday, this platform reported that the Abia State chapter of the PDP caucus met and determined that Ikonne’s replacement will come from the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, where the late Ikonne was born.

According to a statement issued by the Abia PDP Vice Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, members of the State caucus resolved to zone the seat to the late Ikonne’s LGA after careful discussion.
