Peter Nwaoboshi, the legislator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for money laundering.

According to Newsmen, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the latest development on Wednesday via its website.

On July 1, 2022, the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal condemned Senator Nwaoboshi to seven years in prison for money laundering.

However, the legislator who was absent from court at the time of the judgement went underground and refused to appear before the Nigerian Correctional Service.

However, on Monday, February 6, 2023, the politician was apprehended by EFCC agents at a hospital in Lagos.

Senator Nwaoboshi was detained in Ikoyi Custodial Centre on February 8, 2023, to begin his prison sentence.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court handed the politician a reprieve in January by changing the hearing date in the appeal contesting his seven years in prison for corruption.

The legislator had filed an appeal against the court decision, which was set for November 24, 2024.

However, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on Thursday until February 9, 2023, in response to an application made by the lawmaker’s counsel.

Nwaoboshi had asked the Supreme Court, through his counsel, Kanu Agabi SAN, to expedite the hearing of his lawsuit against his imprisonment.
