The Rivers State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Thursday that state Governor Nyesom Wike has finalized arrangements to join the party through the backdoor.

Darlington Nwauju, the party’s spokesman in Rivers State, revealed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Nwauju accused Wike of instructing state council chairmen to canvass votes for APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu in the February 25th, 2023 presidential election.

He stated that the APC is shocked that Wike, who has constantly criticised the party, would want to join it.

This comes only days after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign council in the state accused Wike of working for the APC.

Abiye Sekibo, a director in the presidential campaign committee, declared this in response to the Rivers State Government’s withdrawal of the approval provided for the use of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Governor Wike, according to Sekibo, lacks the fortitude to publicly canvass votes for Tinubu.

However, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Chris Finebone, dismissed the accusation that Wike is looking for a back way into the APC as ridiculous.

Finebone said that the APC was going after the governor.

He said, “The high-wire politics of Governor Wike is beyond the infantile understanding of little chaps in Rivers APC and their collaborators. Hence, the different wild conjectures. The governor holds (all) the aces and is always ahead of them.

“Governor Wike and all of us remain solid members of PDP. Losing sleep over who we will vote for president shouldn’t be their headache but if they had chosen to do so, so be it.”
