A Major of the Nigerian Army and an officer of the Nigerian Police Force were purportedly killed in Delta State by unknown assailants.

According to reports gathered by Newsmen on Friday, gun-wielding criminals stormed Ase-Omuku, a community in Delta State’s Ndokwa East Local Government Area, on Wednesday and decapitated one of their victims, Chief Okwudili Obi.

Another 13-year-old child was reportedly slain during the attack while the attackers looked for their victim.

“They could not get him because he was not at home; at about 3 am, some dissident community members led the gunmen into the community and started shooting for almost one hour, killing a community Chief Okwudili Obi and cutting off his head. They also killed one other young man, a stray bullet hit a young boy of 13 years killing the boy while his mother is in the hospital.”

According to reports, some military officers at Sterling Energy Exploration and Production Company (SEEPCO) confronted the shooters, who then fled the town.

Enebeli, on the other hand, explained that as the gunmen fled the neighborhood, they killed a police officer in Ashaka and two soldiers and a Major in Kwale.

“Three other injured persons whom the gunmen shot thinking they were dead are in the hospital. The gunmen actually went to Breman Hospital by Kwale roundabout to kill the injured people who were receiving treatment there to remove all witnesses, unknown to them there was a soldier checkpoint there, and they shot the Major and another soldier.

“The Major has been confirmed dead. The gunmen’s vehicle developed a fault at Ashaka and they abandoned it,” Daily Post quoted Enebeli saying.

The middle-aged man described the occurrence as barbaric and inhuman, stating that regardless of disputes among the Ase Umoku community’s indigenes, it should not result in the killing of fellow indigenes.

He further stated that operatives from the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army were dispatched to the neighborhood shortly after to help control the situation.
