Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate, has criticized Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for his comments on the naira redesign strategy.
Baba-Ahmed called Governor El-statement Rufai’s on the naira redesign strategy treasonous on Friday.
El-Rufai, according to news reports, attacked President Muhammadu Buhari’s direction on CBN policy in a broadcast on Thursday.
President Buhari authorized banks and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reissue old N200 banknotes in the early hours of Thursday as part of efforts to alleviate the country’s cash shortage.

He did, however, state that the N500 and N1000 are no longer legal tender in the country.
Nevertheless, in the broadcast, El-Rufai stated that the old N1,000 and N500 notes are still legal cash in his state.
The Kaduna State Governor declared on Thursday that the goal of the naira redesign is to derail the 2018 elections.
They also intend to allow an interim government run by a retired army commander.
According to Channels TV, Baba-Ahmed claimed during a news conference in Abuja on Friday that El-comment Rufai’s tantamount to treason and questioned why the presidency remains mute.
He claimed that in Nigeria, there is only one authority, the president, and he wonders how a sub-national can oppose the president’s command.

Baba-Ahmed said, “Anybody who commits this kind of indiscipline under our leadership the full weight of the law should bear on him. We have been more than bewildered at the failures we have witnessed in the past few days. However, it is more of an act of treason, so to say it is an act of treason. If an elected governor of a constituent part of a sovereign country will give direct instructions to the contrary of what is the exclusive preserve of the federal government.
“Why as a Commender-in-chief you give a clean executive constitutional order and a state governor goes out to say that you should continue to exchange those currencies? This is to say that there are two authorities in a country.”
