Nigeria Decides: Voters Flee Polling Units As Boko Haram Strikes In Borno

On Saturday, alleged Boko Haram militants seized Goza town in Borno State’s Goza Local Government Area, disrupting the voting process.

The insurgents struck while voters were voting in the ongoing presidential and legislative elections, according to news reports.

In an interview with Newsmen, the Emir of Goza, Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the incident and stated that five people were injured.

According to him, the terrorists stormed the town center and began firing irregularly, with five people injured and transported to the hospital.

He claimed that the militants arrived in the early hours of the day, when people had lined for accreditation and were ready to vote.

He stated that security agents arrived at the location and pursued the infiltrators, adding that the situation has been brought under control.

“Boko Haram rebels started an offensive into the heart of the town, shooting intermittently,” he claimed.
Five people were injured. The injured have been transported to Maiduguri for medical treatment.

“They came around 8:30am, so voters had lined-up for accreditation when the incident occurred, many voters that scampered for safety have not returned while we are making efforts to urge them to return.

“The DIG of police in charge of the North East, who is from Goza, was here, and everything is under control today.”
