Nigeria’s Christian leaders have voiced dissatisfaction with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to change its stance on uploading the results of Saturday’s general elections to its result portal.

The group’s convener, Rev Williams Okoye, and other leaders revealed this to Newsmen on Tuesday.

The group was responding to a plea by several important stakeholders for INEC Chairman Prof Yakubu Mahmood to cancel the poll due to his refusal to electronically upload results.

They claimed that INEC’s failure to post the election results on its results portal violated the Electoral Act.

“We are shocked that many hours after a National election, INEC could not transmit the results as required. It is in addition to many other fundamental breaches of the electoral law, including late commencement of voting across the country, non-voting in polling units, and widespread reports of logistic failure as highlighted by foreign and domestic observers.”
