“Still, I know some candidates will be hard put to accept the election results. It is your right to seek legal recourse. What is neither right nor defensible is for anybody to resort to violence. Any challenge to the electoral outcome should be made in a court of law, and not in the streets,” Mr Tinubu said in his acceptance speech titled, ‘The Era of Renewed Hope’, delivered in the early hours of Thursday, shortly after being declared winner of the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Mr Tinubu the victor of the election in the early hours of today after he received 8,794,726 votes, beating his closest challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,948,520 votes.
