The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received praise from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for the “peaceful conduct” of the country’s recent presidential and national assembly elections.
While congratulating Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on winning the presidential election, it also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing room for a genuine democratic process without excessive involvement.

The organisation expressed its gratitude in a statement that its national public relations officer, Mr. Temitope Giwa, made accessible on Wednesday.

NANS claims that the President’s decision to refrain from interfering with INEC’s operations has once again enhanced Nigerians’ ability to freely pick their leaders, which is one of the key elements of democracy.

“So, as a country that practices constitutional democracy, the president has set a good precedent in further giving independence to the electoral umpire.”
NANS said, “As a students’ body, we believe in the capacity of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to ensure a turnaround and make education more accessible and affordable to all Nigerians.”

The association, however, called for calm across the country, noting that it is only in the atmosphere that meaningful development can take place.
