Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has disclosed that Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, has formed committees to reconcile his camp with his competitors who lost to him in the presidential election last Saturday.

Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress received 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 6,984,520 votes.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party finished third with 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party finished fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Nevertheless, in a statement issued in Akure by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, the Ondo governor claimed Tinubu had formed committees to meet with his fellow election candidates.

According to Akeredolu, the committees comprise elders of their party, APC, who “would shortly begin to meet with co-contestants of the President-elect in an effort to alleviate their loss in the just ended Presidential Election”.

He stated that all those who have been wronged will be met for reconciliation.

Already, the PDP and the Labour Party have promised to reclaim their stolen mandates, with the latter threatening to take the matter to court.

Akeredolu said, “The President-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together.

“This is an election that was not padded. People who voted were counted, that is the way I see it; it is not one which shows millions of votes.

“You can see the candidates, everyone won 12 states each, it has never been like that before.”

Tinubu extended a hand of fellowship to the supporters of his opponents in the presidential election in a speech delivered shortly after he was proclaimed the winner.

“Whether you are Batified, Atikulated, Obidient, Kwankwasiyya, or have any other political affiliation, you voted for a better, more hopeful nation and I thank you for your participation and dedication to our democracy,” he said.

Immediately after getting his certificate of return from INEC on Wednesday afternoon, Tinubu in his remarks stated, “I know many did not vote for me and you are sad that your candidate is not where I stand now.
I understand how you feel. I send the embrace and comfort of one family to another in response to your anger and disappointment.

“This great project, co-Nigerians, it is bigger and more important than any partisan divide. To my supporters, I ask to continue to face the mission that we have articulated. To those who did not support me, I ask that you should not allow the disappointment of this moment to keep you from realising the historic national progress we can make by working together.”
