The Lagos State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-re-election Olu’s ambition.

Sunday Ossai, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos Chapter, made the announcement on Thursday in Ikeja, at a joint media briefing ahead of the March 11 governorship election.

According to Ossai, the group expressed its support for Sanwo-Olu because he kept his campaign pledges to the group’s members and was kind to Igbos in the state.

He pledged that Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos would repay the governor’s kindness by ensuring that its people vote massively to ensure his re-election.

Ossai further criticised and distanced the organisation from a statement attributed to one Okechukwu Isiguzoro demanding for the governor’s resignation. He said the call did not come from the official body of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, or the Lagos chapter.

He said: “As president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos, I am a representative of Ndigbo in the state, and as their mouthpiece, I hereby debunk the so-called statement that the Igbo body asked Sanwo-Olu to resign.

“If Ndigbo is asking for anybody to become governor of the state, it is Sanwo-Olu, because of the cordial relationship that we enjoy together.

“He represents everything that Ndigbo needs to exist in Lagos. He has been very kind to us. He has implemented friendly policies that enable us to execute our businesses and our professional calling without fear or favour.

“Why should we tell him to resign? He should not resign. If the constitution permits a third tenure, Ndigbo will strongly support Sanwo-Olu.

“With Ndigbo, Sanwo-Olu should go and sleep with his two eyes closed as they will vote for him.”

In her remarks, Ohanaeze woman leader Jane Okoro informed Sanwo-Olu that the whole women structure in the state’s 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will be mobilized to support his re-election.

Okoro, as a result, urged ladies not to let their children be used as political thugs in the upcoming elections.
