The pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere announced on Wednesday that Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, was the victor of the just ended presidential election.

The announcement of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Party, APC, as president-elect by the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, as illegitimate, according to the leading Yoruba organization.

The group underlined that the Presidential and National Assembly elections did not meet the provisions of the modified Election Act 2022.

This was declared in a statement issued by the organization during an Extraordinary General Meeting held at the mansion of the party’s leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, in Isanya-Ogbo, who argued that the election’s conduct had violated both the Election Act and the Constitution.

The group stated in a communiqué signed by its Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, that the electoral umpire’s blatant contempt for the law fostered electoral brigandage at polling locations.

“That the results of the lawful votes at the election available to the Afenifere through credible sources confirm that His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, won the said election, and we thus support his decision to challenge the contrary declaration by the INEC.
