The immediate past minority leader of the 9th Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe has described his emergence as victor of the Senatorial election in Abia South as a narrow escape from what he termed the “OBIDATTI wave in the South-East”.

The OBIDATTI wave in the South-East, he claims, nearly devoured everyone in the political realm.

According to Newsmen, Abaribe stated in a short video to express his gratitude for his reelection that the election was going well until the OBIDATTI tsunami emerged in the southeast.

It should be noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Abaribe the victor of the Senate elections in Abia South held on Saturday, February 25.

Prof. Georgina Ugwuanyi, the Returning Officer for the Abia South National Assembly elections, announced the results, saying Abaribe, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), received 49,903 votes.

The former minority leader defeated the Labour Party candidate, Chinedu Onyeizu, who received 43,903 votes, while Governor Okezie Ikpeazu received 28,422 votes.

However, reacting to his victory, Abaribe said “It was a nice election and was going normally until we saw the OBIDATTI wave in the South-East and it almost consumed everybody and it showed me the love that our people have for me because I was able to survive that wave.”
