Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike mocked Nigeria’s former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday (today), for allegedly voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the recently concluded presidential election against his tribe man, Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

According to Newsmen, Wike was replying to the former Minister’s remark that he loved the Igbo people.

Amaechi stated last week while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Diobu region of Port Harcourt that he has Igbo blood in his veins.

He said that as Governor of the State, his administration favored the Igbo. Amaechi also slammed Governor Wike’s administration in Rivers State, claiming that he was not fair enough to Igbos.

However, in a swift reaction, Wike, while addressing PDP supporters at a campaign rally ahead of the 2023 governorship and State Assembly elections in the State, questioned how the former Governor of Rivers State could claim to love the Igbo while refusing to accept Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State.

“You think you’re smart, but you’re not smart. You said you love the Igbo, but you supported Atiku. You refused to support Obi. You didn’t know the Igbos then you’re supposed to support them.

“You’ve been a minister for how many years, what did you do for the Igbo? What do you do for the Igbo? When he was running for President, he said power should come to the South,” Wike said of Amaechi.

“When he lost, he didn’t believe in that again and said power should go to the North. So that when the North finishes, they’ll give him,” Wike added.

According to news reports, Amaechi ran in the APC presidential primary election in May 2022 but lost the nomination along with others to former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
