Salihu Lukman, the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-west National Vice Chairman, has called for an emergency national convention.

According to news reports, Lukman made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday, calling for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore.

Following Tinubu’s election as President-Elect, Lukman stated that the party’s incoming National Chairman must be a Christian.

He also emphasized the possibility of retaining the National Chairman in North-Central.

Despite the hurdles, Adamu, according to Lukman, has done a good job in leading the party to victory in the 2023 election.

He added that it would be difficult to convince Adamu to resign as National Chairman to allow a Christian takeover.

Lukman said, “For that to happen, it may require an Emergency National Convention because if the hierarchy of the current leadership is to be followed, the successor to Sen. Adamu will be Sen. Abubakar Kyari who is a Muslim from the North-East.”

He stated that, in addition to urging Adamu to step down, there is a need to recognize the situation of the party’s National Secretary, claiming that he has become a subject of greater contention in Osun State.

Omisore, according to Lukman, has been a dividing element in Osun State rather than a unifying factor in the party.

He claimed that the issue may have cost the party the governorship in 2022 to a political mediocrity whose sole qualification in politics appears to be a comedy dance ability.

Lukman stated that in order to salvage Osun State and restore it to its former level of national political relevance, Omisore would need to retire as APC National Secretary and a new uniting National Secretary appointed.

He stated that, in addition to Omisore, any member of the party’s National Working Committee who is not an uniting leader in his or her state should be replaced.
