The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has stated that River State Governor Nyesom Wike paid $300,000 in compensation to victims of the Obigbo massacre in the state.

According to news accounts, in 2020, some military forces slaughtered Biafra agitators in Obigbo, which became known as the Obigbo massacre.

The group stated in a statement signed by Ohanaeze’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, that Wike had disbursed the cash as compensation to the relatives of those that died.

Ohanaeze then asked the victims’ families to seek Ogbonnia for the monies.

He said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo wishes to alert Ndigbo and the entire world that some Ohanaeze saboteurs led by one Alex Ogbonnia, who parades himself as Ohanaeze spokesman, have collected the hefty sum of $300,000 from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for the mass burial and compensation of the victims of the Obigbo massacre who lost their lives during the military onslaught against Ndigbo in Obigbo, Rivers State under the guise of tracking down Biafran agitators in 2020.

“Biafran agitators and families of the Obigbo massacre victims should meet the earlier mentioned characters to collect the money they collected on their behalf.”
