Atedo Peterside, a prominent Nigerian businessman, has stated that it is premature for anyone to celebrate All Progressives Party President-elect Bola Tinubu (APC).

According to him, the Independent National Election Commission’s (INEC) results declaring Tinubu the victor of Nigeria’s presidential election on February 25 are insulting to everyone’s intelligence.

Peterside also stated that he will not accept the results of the 2023 presidential election until the court issues a final ruling on the litigation contesting the APC candidate’s victory.

He said: “If they go through this process and the judges convince us that everything was done correctly and we adopt the numbers, whoever is the winner, we will congratulate the person.

“But for now it is premature; when I can see with my own eyes what INEC has uploaded, it is an insult to everybody’s intelligence; it is premature; people who are rushing to congratulate him have not taken the trouble to even look at the available information or the evidence. INEC is each to its own.”

The ANAP head also praised Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adversary, Atiku Abubakar, for filing a legal challenge to the presidential election results.

Peterside challenged INEC and its chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, to use the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections to address its mistakes and recover Nigerians’ trust.

“It is a chance for the INEC chairman and others to redeem themselves; he should insist that everybody upload the results after voting. We cannot have one or two states hold back the result after voting and start thump printing endlessly and claiming that they could not transmit the result. INEC cannot fail twice. They cannot repeat that same mistake,” he said.
