The gubernatorial and State Assembly elections have yet to begin in several polling units in Enugu metropolis, the Enugu State capital, as of 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were nowhere to be found.

Elections had not yet begun in Airport Secondary School, New Haven Secondary School, Annunciation Hospital Polling Units, Mbulu-Njodo Wards 7, 5, and 9, all in Enugu East Local Government Area, at the time of filing this report.

Many inhabitants appear uninterested in the election, as SaharaReporters saw them going about their business.

“Even though I am going anywhere today, I have to relax and sleep in the house. It is better than going to vote as it will not count. INEC deceived us that they will conduct free and fair elections.

“As of 10:10 am electoral materials have not arrived in our polling units. In the last election – presidential election polling started at 2:05 pm. And it appears they will not come today till that time,” he said.
