Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, has denounced the arrest of Nnamdi Chude, a devoted member of his party.
Chude’s detention, according to Obi, is additional evidence of Nigeria’s unwillingness to uphold the rule of law, he asserted in a string of tweets sent on Tuesday via his Twitter account.

This comes after social media claims that the Anambra Police Command detained Chude on March 18 for tweeting disparaging remarks about the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
On Saturday, Chude tweeted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance, or APGA, Soludo’s political party, had allegedly rigged the House of Assembly election.
LP is winning easily over Anambra.

I can’t remember the last time I heard of ballot box snatching in Anambra. this is the height of it.@CCSoludo has taken us back to Mbadinauju’s era.

2023 Elections: If Elected, I Will Respect Rule Of Law – Peter Obi

Though Soludo had denied involvement in the LP supporter’s arrest, concerned Nigerians have since been calling for his immediate release.

Lending his voice, Obi appealed to all concerned to please treat the issue most objectively on the rule of law and compassionately release Chude.

“After due enquiries, I regret to say that the arrest of Mr Nnamdi @chude__ is a further confirmation of Nigeria’s poor and declining performance in the Rule of Law, Voice and Accountability, and other governance indicators.
“While I appreciate that the freedoms must be exercised in line with the rule of law, arresting Nigerians for tweeting on their leaders and those in authority decimates the opportunity for inclusive governance and accountability, which are highly needed in a developing country like Nigeria.

“I, therefore, appeal to all concerned to please treat the issue most objectively on rule of law, and compassionately release the young man in question. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he tweeted.
