The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Working Committee, and the enlarged State Executive Committee decided on Tuesday to go to court to challenge the outcome of the Abia Governorship election, which declared Labour Party candidate Alex Otti the winner, particularly in six Local Government Areas where BVAS machines were not used.

This was revealed in a statement issued today by Hon. Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Vice Chairman/Acting State Publicity Secretary.

According to news sources, this comes less than a week after Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State congratulated Otti on his victory in the state’s governorship election.

The statement read in part, “The Abia PDP State Working Committee, SWC and the enlarged State Executive Committee, SEC met today and reviewed the results after collecting all the materials used in the conduct of the just concluded guber and State HOA elections and has decided to go to court to challenge the results of the Abia guber election, especially in six local government areas where the BVAS machines were not used.

According to the statement, “the Abia PDP’s legal department will announce the details of its petitions in the next 24 hours and head to the Election Petition Tribunal to contest the Labour Party’s certification of Alex Otti as the winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election.”

Otti was proclaimed the victor of the Abia Governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last week.

Otti, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, defeated PDP contender Okey Ahiwe to win.

He received 175, 467 votes, while Ahiwe received 88,529.
