Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, a well-known Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, has urged Nigerians to oppose the alleged interim government scheme.

Agbakoba made the demand in a statement on Thursday in response to a Department of Service Confidential report on an interim government scheme.

He stated emphatically that the Interim Government is unconstitutional and that all Nigerians should oppose it.

According to Agbakoba, Nigeria’s security agency should punish those who plotted an interim administration to disrupt the country’s democratic process.

He went on to say that, notwithstanding the difficult circumstances of last month’s presidential election, the president-election elect’s should be acknowledged pending the election tribunal’s verdict on charges of irregularities.

“We must all reject this nonsense and respect our Constitution, which has no provision for interim arrangements.

“All leading Presidential candidates have approached the courts with grounds of complaint concerning what they consider as electoral irregularities.

“If the presidential candidates have accepted the democratic process by lodging petitions before the courts, then it is challenging to understand upon what basis anyone considers that an interim government is a viable and legal alternative”, he stated.
