Valentine Obienyem, Peter Obi’s media adviser, claims that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) leaked an audio discussion between the Labour Party (LP), the presidential candidate in the just concluded February 25 election, and David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church.
“I heard they set up a Committee made up of some Communications experts, headed by our prodigal brother from Nnewi. They are reviewing all calls Obi made in the last three years, and especially now to see if he mentioned Interim Government or anything that will make them prosecute him for treason when and if they take over,” Mr Obienyem, said on Sunday in a scanty message.
An audio discussion between Messrs Obi and Oyedepo, exclusively reported by Peoples Gazette, in which the former asked for a push – over other contenders – in the just ended election, went viral over the weekend.

Mr Obi, 61, was heard urging Mr Oyedepo, who is thought to oversee a big segment of Christian influence in the country, to speak to his “people,” particularly those in the North-Central states of Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.
“This is a holy conflict,” the LP candidate was heard saying in the phone call, making a sectarian pitch to the clergyman.
During the pre-election campaigning, many Nigerians, particularly Mr Obi’s adversaries, characterized his political movement as one founded on “race and religion,” particularly with his focus on Christian areas.
In an attempt to protect his principal, Mr Obienyem stated that the audio discussion was “badly doctored.”
He emphasized that both men had discussed the subject of Muslim-Muslim ticketing, which prompted the conversation, and that Mr Obi had always preached religious balancing prior to the election.

“They edited out the Muslim-Muslim ticket that led to the discussion, where Obi said that in a society like ours, religious balancing was a necessary consideration and that their recklessness had made Christians to assume it was a religious war,” he further wrote.
