Reports have emerged that President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun assembling his cabinet ahead of his administration’s inauguration on May 29.

According to sources, the former Lagos State governor intends to reward Northern All Progressives Congress (APC) governors for their involvement in ensuring that a southerner succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari, notably by supporting his desire.

According to the New Telegraph, two northern governors who played key roles in Tinubu’s rise, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, have been lined up for lucrative positions in the forthcoming government.

While Ganduje is expected to be the new Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, El-Rufai would follow Boss Gida Mustapha as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

According to a source, a former Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, Wale Edun, whom Tinubu nominated for Buhari to be appointed Minister of Finance in 2015, has been penciled in to take over the Ministry of Finance.

Recall that Buhari rejected Tinubu’s choice in 2015 and instead chose Kemi Adeosun, who was sponsored by Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The source also revealed that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, will be selected as the President-Chief elect’s of Staff.

While a former head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, and a former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, will also be in the cabinet, former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, will be rewarded for his role in supporting Tinubu despite the outcry and popularity of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the South-East region.

It was also learned that some governing party stakeholders are urging the President-elect to reward Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for his participation in the presidential election.

These stakeholders are said to be pressuring Governor Wike to name the minister who will represent the state in the cabinet.

While having a holiday overseas, Tinubu is still holding a series of talks with diverse stakeholders, hoping to hit the ground running immediately after his swearing-in.
