Bayelsa Guber: Timipre Sylva Beats Lyon, Wins APC’s Governorship Ticket

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has selected Timipre Sylva, the previous minister of state for petroleum resources, as its candidate for governor of Bayelsa State.

According to Newsmen, the Presidency acknowledged Sylva’s resignation in order for her to run for governor of Bayelsa State.

The Bayelsa State primary for the APC to select the party’s standard bearer in the November 11 election got underway on Friday.

Maj. Gen. A.T. Jubrin, the chairman of the APC electoral committee, announced the results for the state’s gubernatorial primary, saying Sylva received 52,061 votes to defeat his nearest challenger, Joshua MacIver, who received 2,078 votes.

He added that there were 142 031 registered voters overall, while 58 121 accredited voters participated in the primary election.

Other results include Chief Festus Daumiebi (557), Chief David Lyon (1591), Chief Ongoebi Etebu Maureen (1277), Chief Joshua Maciver (2078), and Chief Ogbomade Johnson (584).

In his acceptance speech, Sylva praised the election’s participants for maintaining their composure before, during, and after the exercise, saying that the road to success in the general election had just begun.

Timipre Sylva: Fuel Subsidy Still Remains For Now

At a time when Bayelsans needed effective leadership, he expressed gratitude to the party for choosing him to head it. He asserted that with everyone’s support and his own, victory in the general election is certain.

The first runner-up, Maciver, pledged to collaborate with the victor and all of the party’s stakeholders to complete the most important task: dethrone the PDP in the general election.

Douye Diri, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa and the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, would face off against Sylva.
