Aisha Binani was not officially proclaimed the winner of the governor’s race in Adamawa State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Newsmen, Festus Okoye, the national commissioner for information and voter education at INEC, announced this in a statement on the organization’s official Twitter account.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

INEC REC Identifies ‘Leadership As Bane To Nigeria’s Problems’

“The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.

“Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.

“The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.”

Recall that Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani was proclaimed the victor of the Adamawa Governorship election by INEC REC Hudu Yunus Ari.

The REC’s announcement of the Saturday election’s results midway through the collation process, however, has raised questions about the development.
