Unverified rumors claim that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, has chosen Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Alhassan Ado Doguwa to lead the Senate and the House of Representatives of the 10th National Assembly, respectively.
According to news sources, the following individuals are reportedly vying for the position of Senate President: the incumbent, Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe North); Sani Musa (APC, Niger East); Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North); Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North); Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom North-West); Deputy Senate leader, Abdul Ningi
Others are Borno’s Ali Ndume, the APC’s David Umahi from Ebonyi South, the APC’s Adams Oshiomhole from Edo North, and the APC’s Osita Izunaso from Imo State.

Also, those battling to succeed Femi Gbajabiamila as Reps Speaker are Deputy Speaker Idris Wase; Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Aliyu Betara; Chairman, Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi; Chairman, Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu; Chairman, Committee on Land Transport, Tajudeen Abbas; Chairman, Committee on Disaster Preparedness, Abdulraheem Olawuyi; Chairman, Committee on Water Resources, Sada Soli; Makki Yalleman and Sani Jaji.
The decision of Kalu and Doguwa was approved over the weekend by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), a source told Vanguard.
The development also puts an end to weeks’ worth of discussion and rearranging of the deck regarding which geopolitical regions should produce the next Senate President and House Speaker.
The Abdullahi Adamu-led NWC is still keeping the list secret, according to APC insiders who asked not to be named. They also claimed that Senator Sani Musa from the North Central geopolitical zone has been penciled in for deputy senate president.
APC Asks Northern Senators To Step Down From Senate Presidency Race
Other senators who are expected to hold important positions in the Senate include Ali Ndume from the North East, who will serve as majority leader, Solomon Olamilekan from the Southwest region, who will serve as deputy chief whip, and Aliyu Wamakko from the North West, who will serve as chief whip. Adams Oshiomhole has been chosen to fill the position of deputy senate leader for the South South.
After lengthy discussion, it was reported that APC NWC members decided against the urgent need for a Muslim Senate President. They said that the party had already produced a Muslim president and vice president-elect but preferred a Muslim speaker for the House of Representatives.
“Although, there have been back and forth arguments on which region should produce the Senate president, our party understands that most of these arguments are valid. However, when you look at the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the issue of regional imbalance both at the National Assembly and the executive caused a lot problems for his government and our party wants to avoid that beginning with the zoning of the National Assembly leadership positions, especially the Senate presidency going to the Southeast,” one of the sources, an NWC member, said.
