Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP, won the just-concluded general election in Lagos, shocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, according to Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola.
The disclosure was made by Fashola, a former governor of Lagos State, in an interview with Channels Television for the Sunday Politics program.
He explained that the LP energized its supporters in the state and destroyed Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s standard bearer, prospects of winning the election.

He criticized the pre-election polls that anticipated Obi and Atiku’s win as being “badly conducted,” while noting that the ruling party conducted internal surveys but never made them public.
According to Fashola, who oversaw the Tinubu-Shettima campaign’s Election Planning Directorate, the APC was aware of the states where it stood a good chance of winning and had focused its efforts there.
He said: “In some cases, you get blindsided. We were blindsided in Lagos State because the opposition turned out their voters there. And you also saw that the umbrella party that has been competitive for 24 years suddenly disappeared. It showed that their support base has shifted.”
When asked whether Obi’s victory in Lagos during the presidential poll surprised the ruling party, he said, “Yeah, blindsided us, without a doubt. They turned out their voters, and in the subsequent gubernatorial poll, we turned out our voters.”
