Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resident electoral commissioner in Adamawa State, has been placed on administrative leave.

According to information obtained by news organizations, Yunusa-Ari was suspended by the electoral board as a result of the illegal announcement of Aisha Binani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in the state, as the new governor.

While the results of the Saturday supplemental election were still being tallied, Yunusa-Ari made the announcement on Sunday.

The Commissioner, however, revoked Binani’s announcement as the new governor of Adamawa State in a statement posted on its official Twitter account on Sunday.

Additionally, until further notice, the state suspended the collation of results.

The REC was asked to avoid the INEC office in Yola, Adamawa state, in a letter dated April 17, 2022, and signed by the commission’s secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

The electoral body gave the state’s administrative secretary the authority to handle its business.

Part of the letter reads; “I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the Commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.
