On Tuesday, the Enugu State Police Command said that it had rescued two four-year-old children and detained two members of a child trafficking organisation.

The two suspects, identified as Miracle Orji (24) and Blessing Ani (34) were apprehended at separate locations throughout the state by agents with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) on March 24, 2023, according to a statement released by the Command on Tuesday by its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe.

He claims that the operatives discovered the kid stealing and trafficking ring after receiving reliable information from the general people.

According to him, “Preliminary investigation reveals that on 24/03/2023, Miracle Orji stole and was escaping with Ogechi Edeh, before she was intercepted and arrested with the assistance of citizens at Ameke-Oduma Community in Aninri Local Government Area.
“Her confessional statement led to the arrest of Blessing Ani around Shoprite Mall, Enugu, where she was waiting to receive and further traffic the child”.

He also noted that during interrogation of Blessing Ani, she confessed to have been involved in the act of child trafficking since 2017, and guided the operatives to Abuja, where the male victim, Destiny Okechukwu, who had been sold with fake documents and renamed Chibuike, was rescued.

While the Command’s spokesman said that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, he declared that the suspects would be arraigned in court after conclusion of investigation.
