Tuesday, a teen named Abass Enitan was given a nine-month prison term without the possibility of parole after breaking the window of a police station cell in an attempt to flee.

Enitan, 19, was sentenced by Magistrate M. C. Ayinde without the option of a fine after entering a guilty plea, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

She held, “This will serve as a deterrent to others.”

Enitan, whose residence was unknown, was accused of willful damage and making an illegal attempt to elude police.

Inspector Segun Oke, the prosecutor, had earlier informed the court that the defendant, Enitan, had perpetrated the theft of a ram valued N150,000 that belonged to Mr. Bisola Olusanya.

The prosecutor said the complainant later asked for the case to be withdrawn since he had recovered his ram.
Oke said the defendant, who was locked up at the police station, broke the toilet window in a bid to escape.

The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of Sections 339 and 406 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
