In spite of the leadership crisis roiling the party, Mr. Julius Abure, the embattled national chairman of the Labour Party, LP, has maintained his independence, according to Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate.

In Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday, Obi addressed the LP National Executive Council, or NEC.

After the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, sealed the LP’s secretariat a few days ago, the post-election turmoil took on a new level.

Remember that a week after being suspended by a ward in the party’s Edo State chapter for suspected anti-party activities, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Abure not to represent himself as the national chairman of the LP.

Following the court ruling, Lamido Bashir Apapa, the LP’s national vice chairman who had been charged with being sponsored by opposition parties, assumed acting leadership of the party.

But in a surprising turn of events, a High Court in Benin also issued a directive prohibiting anyone from dismissing the troubled party chairman from his position.

However, when questioned about the national chairman of the LP’s troubled organization’s leadership dilemma, Obi responded, “The case is in court. Although I respect that, he is still my own guy.
