Swiss Embassy Donated N8 Million To Victims Of Maiduguri Market Fire

The Swiss Embassy in Nigeria has contributed N8 million to 150 victims of the March fire that destroyed Maiduguri’s main market, Monday Market.

The donation was made in a timely manner in order to ease the victims’ pain and allow them to restart their enterprises.

N2.5 million was in cash, while the remaining N5.5 million was in food products.

The N2.5 million was divided among 50 victims, each of whom received N50,000 to help them restart their businesses.
Each of the remaining 100 victims received a food package that included a 50kg bag of rice, a 3kg bag of sugar, a 3lt gallon of cooking oil, and a sachet of Maggi cubes.

The cost of each pack was N55,000, totalling N5.5 million for the 100.

The distribution of the cash and food items, conducted by an NGO, Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability, was flagged off by Special Adviser to Borno State Governor on Legal Matters and Administration, Simon Malgwi.

Malgwi urged the beneficiaries to utilise the donation according to its purpose.
