Alhaji Aliyu Maraca, the Emir of Yandoto who had been suspended, has been given the go-ahead to return by Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.

This was said in a statement released on Sunday in Gusau and signed by Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Secretary to the State Government.

The committee set up to look into all matters relating to the awarding of a traditional title to a repentant bandit named Ado Aleiru made recommendations that led to his reinstatement.

No indication of malice or cooperation between the Emir and the bandit was discovered by the committee.

“Based on the findings of the committee, the traditional title was conferred on the repentant bandit as part of peace-building efforts between the repentant bandit and banditry-affected communities in the Tsafe and Gusau local government areas, which include Yandoto town,“ Balarabe said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Zamfara State government suspended the Emir of Yandoto on July 18, 2022 for conferring the traditional title of Sarkin Fulanin Yandoto on an alleged notorious bandit, Ado Aleru.

The conferment generated public outcry that led to the postponement of the ceremony and since then the state government constituted a committee to investigate the matter.
