The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) members and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, are anticipated to meet with the lawmakers-elect to discuss the leadership of the first National Assembly.
The meeting is slated to take place this week in Abuja before the 10th National Assembly is sworn in on June 5, 2023, according to newsmen.
The upcoming conference will take place against the backdrop of the competition between interested candidates for the positions of Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the Senate.
According to a rumor from the Tinubu camp, after his Monday return from France, the president-elect will assume control and provide guidance.
In order to prevent a repeat of the 2015 event that resulted in Senators Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara serving as the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, it was reported that the APC NWC would meet with Tinubu.
Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s director of publicity, acknowledged the NWC meeting might happen this week in an interview with Newsmen on Sunday. By then, party members must have returned from the holiday vacation and their journey to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj.
He said, “We are expecting the President-elect to arrive hopefully from tomorrow (Monday). I may not be sure of the exact date, but I think the NWC meeting will also take place this week after everybody must have returned from the holiday break and their trip from Umrah.”
Members-elect have stated that they will let the APC choose the leadership zoning for the 10th National Assembly.
The parliamentarians stated their willingness to follow the party’s decisions regarding the leadership dispute and urged for fairness and equity in the distribution of offices and positions.
