Following the return of the country’s new president, Bola Tinubu, lobbying for positions in the new administration has increased significantly.

After taking a sabbatical from his political activities for more than a month, Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Monday, according to earlier news reports.

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, ministers, departing governors, members-elect of the National Assembly, and clerics, among others, have surrounded Tinubu’s Asokoro, Abuja house and defense House in Maitama District of Abuja since he returned to the nation.

Security officers have taken over key locations in the neighborhood due to the rush of persons vying for posts, barring unauthorized visitors from parking their cars anywhere close to the President-elect’s official residence.

According to a source who spoke with Daily Sun, some of those efforts to lobby for posts brought Tinubu to Saudi Arabia, where he was scheduled to make a pilgrimage during the Ramadan season.

The source said, “Few days after the announcement of Tinubu’s itinerary, outgoing APC governors, top government officials, pastors, imams, members-elect of the National Assembly, ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, members of APC Presidential Campaign Council, among others, hurriedly proceeded to Saudi Arabia, to lobby the president-elect on appointment to juicy positions.

“Unfortunately, Tinubu’s planned trip to Saudi Arabia was called off without any reason by his handlers. Those who had travelled to the Holy Land to wait for Tinubu’s arrival returned to Nigeria disappointed.”

The majority of lobbyists are vying for positions in the CBN, Customs, foreign missions, oil, gas, maritime, and aviation industries, as well as those of the president and his deputy, as well as main officers of the National Assembly and CEOs and board members of federal parastatals.

The source added that individuals who had contributed to Tinubu’s victory expressed a desire to not leave their profits up to chance.

On Tuesday, it was seen that a number of senior government figures and their entourage of security personnel were stuck outside the president-elect’s home and unable to enter.

The source stated, “They’ve resorted to keeping vigils around the vicinity, hoping to somehow catch up with Tinubu or his close allies who could help their cause.”

Due to the new law that President Muhammadu Buhari approved, Tinubu is anticipated to assemble his cabinet by the end of July 2023.
