Security Personnel Apprehend Three Kidnappers, Rescue Victim

Three members of a suspected criminal gang of kidnappers have been apprehended by Anambra State’s combined security operatives in Aguata Local Government Area.

After a gun battle with security officers in the neighbourhood, the suspects were arrested late Thursday.

Their names were revealed as Chinonso Offor, an Enugu State native who lives in Ekwulba, Hycent Ugwuike, a Nsukka native who lives in Onitsha, and Samuel Sunday, an Akwa-Ibom native who lives in Isuochi, Aba State.

“After hot gun exchanges, the security operatives also rescued their kidnap victim, who was kidnapped at Neni by Okacha Junction,” the security operatives said.

“Two AK-47 with live ammunition, fake police and army uniforms, two mobile phones, two bulletproof vests, two walkie-talkies, one black Prado Jeep with registration number: GWA – 696 CM ABUJA, one Ash Lexus 350 with registration number: EKY – 605GV LAGOS and others were recovered from them.”

Confirming the incident to the press on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the hoodlums confessed to the Anambra State Police operatives as being members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“The hoodlums are still in police custody, undergoing further investigations,” Ikenga added.
