Simon Ekpa, a well-known agitator and separatist for Biafra, has backed the demand for Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, to be released immediately before surrendering on May 29, 2023.
Ekpa’s response comes after Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu urged President Muhammadu Buhari to free Kanu as a farewell present to Igbos around the world.
The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was exhorted to persist in calling for Nnamdi Kanu’s release by the self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, a lawyer located in Finland.
If Governors Refuse To Release Nnamdi Kanu, We’ll Shut Down South East – Simon Ekpa Warns
“We commend Iwuanyanwu for calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We urge and hope that his leadership will be consistent and aggressive in pushing for MNK’s release. Iwuanyanwu should remember that he has been in our good books since 2022”, he wrote.
The federal government re-arrested Nnamdi Kanu in 2021, and he has remained in custody ever since despite court decisions calling for his freedom.
On May 29, 2023, Buhari will cede control to President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
